Ingredients
Filling Ingredients:
½ cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated white sugar
⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
2 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
6 medium Granny Smith Apples, sliced
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Basic Pie crust (can be substituted with 2 Pillsbury premade pie crusts)
1-2 oz Southern Comfort (optional)
Topping Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 large Eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
2/3 cup Unsalted Butter, melted
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Press the pie crust into the bottom of an oiled 13x9 inch pan.
Make filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt ½ cup butter. Add in whiskey (optional) and cook for 2 minutes. Add in sugars and spices and cook until the sugar begins to dissolve. Add sliced applies to the pan followed by the lemon juice and cornstarch. Fold the apples into the syrup until all the sugar is dissolved and the apples are completely coated, being sure to work quickly so that the apples don’t soften. Remove from heat and set aside.
Make topping: Combine flour, 3/4 cup sugar, eggs, baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and salt in bowl; mix until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour the apples into the pie crust pan. Sprinkle topping over apples until fully covered and distributed evenly. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until lightly browned and the apples are tender.
